Greenduino: the greenhouse automatically open source

Greenduino is a new project created in response to strong interest charged by the posts on this blog about the 'LED lighting used to grow crops. The intention is to build a powerful tool that allows to perform scientific tests on the properties that the different frequencies of light have on the growth of crops, but not only ...
Greenduino is a mini-greenhouse automated built in a cabinet and provided with a powerful light source composed of power LEDs of different colors.
Both the logo that the name of the project is a tribute to the brain that manage each component of the greenhouse, the hardware platform open souce Arduino .

This article is written as the introduction to a series of articles I will describe each step in the specific construction of Greenduino and present reports on the experiments of cultivation.
The instructions for mounting the greenhouse automation will be correlated with images, diagrams, software, suppliers of materials and prices. I trust in the cooperation of all who are interested, you can interact through the comments of individual articles.

Below is a list of some of the features / characteristics required for Greenduino:

  • lamp consisting of 20 LEDs 3W
    • Tipogie three different LED (blue / red / green)
    • possibility to adjust the luminous intensity of the individual colors so as to obtain infinite combinations of light
    • adjustment of the lamps over time so as to program, in addition to a daily cycle of light / dark, color variations over the entire life cycle of the plant
    • cooling of the lamp with heat sinks and fans controlled by a temperature sensor
  • hydroponic system automated
  • ventilation of the cabinet for circulating air and control temperature
  • sensors of temperature and humidity
  • online interface to manage every command and see the report data
    • all the values recorded by the sensors of the greenhouse will be sent to a server to be available in time to see the various reports
    • each command and parameter variations of the greenhouse can be made conveniently via web interface, do not rule in the future to make an application for Android

In the next article will discuss the construction of the LED lamp, which can also be used stand alone without the Arduino controller, see you soon ...

  1. Very,
Arduino use for years with great satisfaction!

  2. I read all the articles of GREENDUINO and LED lamps, great idea and very constructive, but I still can not figure out exactly what is and has potential ARDUINO ... you could do a little article in Italian that explains better what is it?

beyond your aticoli just stuff I found in English and honestly I'm a bit confused!

    Hello

    • Caio, Arduino is an open source hardware platform developed in Italy that has had enormous success around the world. It will certainly be the subject of an upcoming articles, you can find a lot of material waiting in Italian by filtering a Google search on sites in Italian.
A link from which to get an idea (though perhaps a bit too technical) would be: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arduino_ (Hardware)

  3. hello the idea is really a bomb. I am helping a friend who, already living in the city center is unable to grow his tomato plants because in a very ominous. As soon as I read this project came to me immediately wanted to build it, because a fan of electronic two because my girlfriend is becoming a biologist. I have two lucidazioni. regarding the DIY I get it all, but I wanted to understand: 1-all this attacks the Arduino processor but with what software I'll six homebuilt? 2 - and if you've already done this thing which was the yield of the plant it is worth it? waiting for your answer thank you

    • Because lack of time I have temporarily suspended work on the project during the summer but I hope to return soon. I have not yet developed software and hardware to control the lamp, even if there are design and materials.
Aspect to take the crops when I have finished the controller to be developed with Arduino. Wanting the lamp may still be used at maximum capacity and enough inexpensive mechanical timer to adjust the period of ignition within 24 hours.
Regarding the results are hopeful, and with some research online, you can find many examples of good indoor crops that use technology LED lighting.
As soon as I have any news on the development and testing Greenduino publish on the blog. Hello and best wishes for your projects
